1. Why Choose No-Drill Installation
Many Starlink users cannot or prefer not to drill into their property. Common reasons include:
- Rental agreements that prohibit permanent modifications
- HOA restrictions on roof or wall penetrations
- Historic building preservation requirements
- Temporary living situations (short-term rentals, RVs, boats)
- Desire to reclaim the mounting location when moving

2. No-Drill Mounting Methods
Method 1: Railing / Ladder Mount (Universal Pipe Mount)
How it works: Our Universal Pipe Mount uses U-bolts that clamp around existing railings, pipes, or ladder rungs. No tools beyond a wrench are needed.
Best applications: Deck railings, balcony railings, RV ladders, porch posts, fence posts.
Installation: Position the bracket on the railing, thread U-bolts around the structure, and tighten the nuts. Attach the mounting plate and terminal. Total time: 10 minutes.
Important: Ensure the railing is structurally sound. A loose railing will cause signal loss every time it moves. Check for wobble before mounting.
Method 2: Window Sill Mount
How it works: A C-clamp or bracket designed to hook over the window sill, with an extension arm reaching outside to hold the terminal.
Best applications: Apartment windows, second-story windows where ground access is limited.
Installation: Open the window, place the C-clamp over the sill, close the window on the flat cable adapter, and tighten the clamp. No drilling into the window frame.
Limitations: Only works with Starlink Mini (lighter weight, smaller profile). Window must open horizontally or vertically with at least 6 inches of clearance.
Method 3: Weighted / Ballasted Base
How it works: A flat base plate that holds sandbags or concrete pavers to provide ballast weight. The mount post extends from the center of the weighted base.
Best applications: Flat roofs (with owner permission), patios, decks, ground installation on hard surfaces.
Installation: Place the base on a flat surface, add ballast (sandbags or concrete blocks — minimum 40 lbs / 18 kg for Mini, 60 lbs / 27 kg for Standard), attach the mount post, and mount the terminal.
Note: Weighted bases are not suitable for high-wind areas or locations where the base could be disturbed by people or animals.
Method 4: Tripod / Portable Stand
How it works: A lightweight aluminum tripod that sets up in 2 minutes. The terminal mounts on top and the legs provide stability on uneven ground.
Best applications: Camping, tailgating, temporary events, construction sites.
Installation: Extend the legs, place on level ground, mount the terminal, and use the included guy lines for high-wind situations.
Important: The tripod must be secured in windy conditions. Use the included stake-down kit for grass installations.

- Inspect the railing — Check for wobble, rust, or damage. A stable railing is essential. If the railing moves more than 1 cm when pushed, reinforce it before mounting.
- Choose the right mount — The Universal Pipe Mount works with round or square railings (1-3 inch diameter). Use rubber padding to protect the railing finish and prevent metal-on-metal contact.
- Position for clear sky view — Mount the terminal on the side of the railing that faces the open sky. Avoid under-eave positions where the roof overhang blocks the satellite view.
- Route the cable — Use the flat cable adapter kit to pass the cable under a door or through a window gap without drilling.
- Test before finalizing — Temporarily mount the terminal and check the Starlink app for obstructions before tightening everything fully.
5. Window & Sill Installations
Installation Steps
- Clean the window sill thoroughly
- Attach the C-clamp to the sill and tighten gently
- Extend the mount arm to position the terminal outside the window
- Route the cable through the Flat Cable Adapter and close the window
- Verify the cable is not pinched and the window seal is intact
- Connect the cable inside to your Starlink Mini power supply
6. Ground & Portable Installations
For ground-level or portable installations, we recommend:
- Patio / Deck: Weighted base with concrete pavers. Position away from foot traffic
- Camping: Tripod stand with guy lines. Place in an open area with 360-degree sky view
- Construction site: Tripod stand with weighted sandbag base. Secure with lockable cable to prevent theft
- Tailgating / Events: Tripod stand or railing mount on a vehicle rack. Disconnect and stow during transport
